You can use Starlink in-motion up to 550 mph with certain service plans in locations authorized for in-motion use.
Plans that enable in-motion use:
- Roam 50GB: Includes coverage in territorial waters and inland waterways (up to 12 nautical miles from the coast) for 5 consecutive days and up to 60 days per year.
- Roam Unlimited: Roam Unlimited offers the same coverage and duration limits as Roam 50GB, but also allows you to enable Ocean Mode for extended use:
- Stay connected beyond 12 nautical miles from land.
- Exceed the 5 consecutive days/60 days per year limit in territorial waters.
- Get higher network priority than Roam data everywhere Starlink is available.
- Toggle Ocean Mode on/off in your account portal. Once enabled, you'll start using Ocean Mode immediately and remain opted in until you turn it off. For example, turn on Ocean Mode as you approach waters beyond 12 nautical miles, toggle off when within range to switch back to unlimited Roam data.
- Local Priority: In-motion and on land
- Global Priority: Offers prioritized speeds on land, coastal, and international waters, wherever Starlink is available. Select one of our pre-set plans and adjust data as needed.
Plans that do not enable in-motion use:
In-motion use is not permitted for the Residential or Residential Lite plan, as described in Fair Use Policy.
Important Notes:
- Ocean Mode begins immediately after enabling it in your account. It will remain enabled until you toggle it off in your account.
- Ocean Mode provides higher network priority than Roam data. While it is intended for use on water, you can enable Ocean Mode while on land (billed-per-GB) and receive higher priority service compared to Roam data.
- Actuated Starlink models are not recommended for in-motion use due to safety risks.
- Exceeding data limits without opting for additional data restricts ocean internet access to your Starlink account.
Hardware and Warranty: Starlink Performance (Gen 3), Starlink Performance (Gen 2), Starlink Standard, and Starlink Mini are the approved Starlinks for in-motion use. Customers using an actuated Starlink that contains motors (e.g., Standard Actuated, Performance (Gen 1)) while in motion do so at their own risk as they are not designed for in-motion use; equipment falling onto the road or off a vessel due to poor installation practices can cause serious accidents resulting in bodily injury or damage to property. Damage to the Starlink while in motion may result in a void of your Starlink warranty.
